Geography and size: The Back-Country section of Greenwich encompasses the north sections north of the Merritt Parkway from the westernmost border of New York State and the easternmost border with Stamford. It features more wide open countryside.
Parks/playgrounds/marinas/beaches: There is one nature park in this region, the Babcock Preserve, and ballfields and a playground at the Parkway Elementary School. Given the northern location of this region there are no nearby marinas or beaches, only those along the waterfront areas of Downtown Greenwich, Cos Cob, Riverside and Old Greenwich.
Recreational membership clubs with facilities: There are three membership clubs in this area with facilities, the Fairway Country Club, Stanwich Country Club, and the Tamarack Country Club and 13 community-wide.
Shopping and restaurants: In the Banksville shopping center on North Street there is an deli and miscellaneous shops. Across the street from this center there is a general store and a liquor shop. The closest restaurant is just across the border in Bedford, NY, La Cremailliere.
Transportation: There nearest train station to this neighborhood is the Greenwich Train Station more than five miles away. The closest major roadway is the Merritt Parkway, while I-95 is miles away in Downtown. There are no public bus services in this area.
