Geography and Size: Pemberwick is a quaint neighborhood
just south and west of Glenville. Geographically, Pemberwick runs from
just west of the western side of Weaver Street down to the Byram River
and the New York border.
Parks/Playgrounds/Marinas/Beaches: Pemberwick features
the 44 acre Pemberwick Park and the Yantorno Community Center for
recreational and neighborhood activities. At the park there is a ball
field, tennis courts, basketball and bocce courts. Playgrounds in the
area are located at either Glenville or Western Middle schools, or the
Western Greenwich Civic Center. All of these options are less than a
mile from this neighborhood area. There are no marinas or beaches
immediately in this area but there is some water recreation possible
along the Byram River which crosses through Pemberwick, running from
back-country, to Glenville’s ‘Mill” through Pemberwick and onward to
Byram and Long Island Sound.
Membership Clubs with Facilities: There are no
membership clubs with locations in this neighborhood section of located
with the Pemberwick but there are others outside the immediate area that
are easily accessible.
Shopping and Restaurants: Pemberwick is a residential
area, thus the only shopping and food service in the area is a small
general store on Pemberwick Road. The closest shopping and restaurants
are less than a mile from central Pemberwick in the ‘hub’ of Glenville.
Nearby Transportation: The closest train stations to
Pemberwick are either the station in central Portchester, New York or
the Greenwich Station. The closest major roadway is West Putnam Avenue
(Route #1), while the Merritt Parkway is no more than one mile away in
western Glenville and Interstate 95 is less than one mile away in Byram.
There are buses that pass by Pemberwick daily with the closest stop
being at West Putnam Avenue and Byram Road. Travel time to mid-town
Manhattan, no matter the mode of transportation, is between 35 and 55
minutes. Stamford, Connecticut is no more than 20 minutes away.
